Enter Crew Hours

Available now on Beta, This feature is in beta testing and will roll out to everyone soon.

What is this?

The crew step records who was on site and how long they worked on each phase code. Each person is a row. Each phase code is a column. Clue adds up the hours and the cost as you type. You can also add a temporary crew member who is not in Clue yet.

Who's this for?

  • Foreman, enter your crew hours by phase code at the end of the shift.
  • Payroll, see total hours and pay codes for each worker.
  • Project manager, see where labor hours went on the job.

How to use it

Step 1: Open the crew step

Open a draft daily and go to Step 2 of 5 · Crew. The title asks Who was on the crew for that date.

Step 2: Type hours by phase code

Type each person's hours under the phase code they worked. To give everyone the same hours on a code, use Set all to under the code.

Step 3: Check totals and T&M

Total shows each person's hours against a normal day, such as of 8.0. Hours over a full day show in red. Click T&M to mark a row as extra work.

Step 5: Add a temporary crew member

In + Add Person, type the name. If the person is not in Clue, click Add "name" as a temporary crew member. The row shows TEMP. Click + Asset on the row to put the person on a machine.

Step 6: Put people on a machine

Step 10: Check per diem

When your company uses per diem, a chip shows next to the name of the person. A dashed PER DIEM? chip is a suggestion. A solid PER DIEM chip is added. See Per Diem on Dailies.

The full details

  • Crew Members: Shows how many people are on the crew and the total hours, job and pay codes together.
  • Phase code column: Shows the code and its name. The info icon shows what the code was bid at.
  • Set all to: Fills the same hours for every person in that code.
  • Other: Non-job pay codes, for time not billed to a phase code.
  • Cost: Labor cost from each person's rate.
  • Total: Hours for the person against a normal day.
  • T&M: Marks the row as extra work, outside the contract prices.
  • Asset: Links a person to the machine that they ran. The job hours of the person go to the machine on the Assets step. You do not have to open the Assets step.
  • Two or more people on one machine: Each person gets their own operator row on the Assets step, with their crew hours and phase code.
  • Change the hours: When you change the hours of a person, their row on the Assets step changes too.
  • Take a person off a machine: Remove the machine from the row of the person on this step. Clue removes only the row of that person on the Assets step. The rows of the other people stay.
  • Machine removed on the Assets step: Clue also removes the machine from the crew rows. The crew hours stay.
  • + Add Vendor: Adds a subcontractor crew. Vendor rows show SUB.
  • MANUAL: A code typed by hand that is not on the project. The office maps it during review.
  • TEMP: A temporary crew member. The machine you put them on stays on their row. The Daily Report panel shows them by name.
  • Next day: When you plan tomorrow, each person carries to the next daily with the machine they ran. A temporary crew member keeps their machine on this step. The Assets step shows that machine with no operator.
  • Field staff only: With this company setting on, only people with a field job title go on a daily. Mechanics and office staff do not show in the crew list, and they do not get attestations.
  • Timecards by role: With this company setting on, foremen do not see the timecards of mechanics and office staff. Admins, executives and managers still see them.
  • After submit: Crew hours are locked for all users. A reviewer can reopen the daily to change them.
  • Company settings: Field staff only and timecards by role are company settings that Clue's team turns on for you.

Tips

  • Use Set all to first, then change only the people who differ.
  • To take a person off a machine, remove the machine on the row of the person here. Do not remove the machine on the Assets step, because that removes it for every person.
  • Add a day worker as a temporary crew member. You do not need to wait for the office to add them to Clue.
  • Click Save as Draft to finish later. Click Save Crew to move to the assets step.
